To establish a network of universities and environmental laboratories in Eastern Europe in order to create a virtual center of excellence in the Balkans region.

The funding would be used to build a web based portal (laid over an SQL data base) comparing the environmental legislation and laws in different countries, building access portals, sharing of information related to climate change and its impact upon land use in flood plains.

The project idea is to ensure the conservation of the protected natural reservation (its’ natural habitats, wild flora and fauna) “Inferior Course of Tur River” situated in the Western Field of Romania. The reservation lies in between the Calinesti Lake and the border to Ukraine and Hungary. The River Tur flows through the reservation and follows its’ course through Hungary.

Wind random variability and intermittence are the main disadvantages of practically unlimited and free wind energy. Owing to these restrictions electric power quality from wind turbines is secured against different distortions with sophisticated and expensive devices, while steady flow of power in the absence of adequate wind – with a back-up supply from the public electrical grid.

In contrast to modern wind turbines we propose basically new type of wind machine without rotating external blades and some other actually typical elements which combines both energy generation and accumulation (using hydro- and compressed air energy storage systems). It can provide strictly fixed alternating current, alternating voltage and frequency with estimated efficiency about 50%. Furthermore, it can work for an unlimited time under autonomous conditions.

As a result of innovative engineering solutions the new wind machine will not produce annoying noise, electromagnetic fields interfering with television and low frequency emissions which may cause health problems. Therefore, it can be located close to households both in rural and urban areas.

Production, operation, maintenance and repair of the wind machine which is designed, first of all, for private use on a large scale are neither expensive nor difficult, so energy cost should not exceed the corresponding actual level.

We are looking for partners to elaborate the project including design documentation and pilot model testing in return for sharing rights on production.

The aim of this project is to show that small and medium sized vertical axis wind turbines could be even far more effective then the conventional ones. The project is focused on creation of innovative construction of vertical axis wind turbine designed for small to medium power segment. The turbine will work even at very low wind speed (below 2 m/s), its effectiveness is expected to be at least 50 % better than conventional 3 blades wind generators and it is projected to have automatic wind-orientation device. The turbine will be compact and could be mounted even at the roof of the buildings or offices.

The success of the project could lead to rapid implementation of this type of wind turbines for urban needs and will reduce production cost below 0.04 EUR per kW/h, which will be in line with EU directives.

The Bioresource Group of Cooperative Research Centre for Environmental and Information Technology belonging to University of Pannonia (Veszprem, Hungary) decided to elaborate the R+TD topic titled
“Production of value-added glycerol derivatives from co-product glycerol of biodiesel manufacturing”.
In 2007 we are looking for RTD-performers and SME partners from EU for the project of FP7-SME-2007-1. For a FP7-SME-2007-1 consortium 3 SMEs and 2 RTD-performers are needed.
Two Hungarian SMEs would like to produce value-added glycerol derivatives especially glycerol-carbonate and tert-Butyl ethers of glycerol. Cooperative Research Centre for Environmental and Information Technology is able to elaborate the technologies of these products. Moreover bioemulsifiers (being new and important products in the palette) producted by a potential English partner will enrich the supply. We have some further potential partners from Skovakia, Czech Republic and Greece.
